Know Your Roots

Welcome to Brian Fishman’s personal corner of the world wide interwebs. I’m not really sure what I’m doing or why this blog exists, but I figured I’d give it a shot. Humor me.

My love affair with video games began in 1988, on my 5th birthday, when my parents made one of the worst financial mistakes in their lives. They bought me a Nintendo Entertainment System packaged with the Zapper, the Power Pad, and a Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet combo cartridge. Over the next few years, I begged and pleaded with my parents to feed my addiction. My obsession with Nintendo soon blossomed into similarly unhealthy relationships with Atari, Sega, Sony, and Microsoft.

As a fourth-year medical student without much disposable income, I’ve turned to other outlets to fuel my hobby. I’ve been a community moderator and freelance writer for GameSpot.com for a few years now. For years, my goal was to open my own pediatric practice and use video games to alleviate patient anxiety and promote the beneficial effects of gaming to parents. Now, I really have no idea what I want to do with my medical career. Until I figure that out, this blog will be my outlet to discuss current events in video games, political attempts to regulate the industry, and my general opinion on whatever crosses my mind. So, welcome to Doctor Fishypants! Stay a while.
