This Monday marks the beginning of my 10th week of medical school. It’s not exactly what I expected, and the workload is rough, but I really like what I’m learning. Throughout high school, college, and even grad school, I was never all that excited about learning because it was difficult to see how cramming for exams and memorizing seemingly minute facts and figures would ever be of use to me. In medical school, the more you study and the more knowledge you retain, the more likely it is that you’ll have the crucial bit of information at the necessary time to save a life.
That being said, there are definitely times when I just can’t bring myself to study. When you’re in lecture for nearly 9 hours a day and then have just enough time to go home and eat dinner before heading back out to study, you burn out fairly quickly. So, here I am. I’ve got embryology and anatomy exams on Monday morning, and I’m sitting at the computer on a Saturday night posting in a blog that I doubt anyone even follows anymore because I barely update it each month. I’m still not quite sure what I’d like to do with this site. Before I started school, it was a place to house all of my musings on the video game industry. I’d still like to do that, but school has completely taken over. The only playing I do on any sort of regular basis is a crossword or two on my DS in bed before going to sleep. I miss writing reviews and being involved in the GameSpot community. But this small detour will help get me where I want to be. And once I’m there, my patients will have to get in line behind me in my waiting room to play a video game or two.
