A Few Quick Updates

Josh Petting

It’s been a while since I’ve had time to get anything of value posted here, but I know that a lot of people who read this site don’t necessarily give a damn about video games. So from time to time I’ll post personal updates like this one. The next few weeks will be pretty busy for me while I finish up and defend my Master’s thesis. I’d talk more about it here, but I’m pretty sure no one cares about evolutionary developmental biology. In a nutshell, I look at the evolution of different anatomical structures like the eye or the jaw and talk about how their development could have allowed for life to move out of the water and onto land. It’s pretty dry material.

We took my nephew to Lake FarmPark yesterday and I’ve posted photos to my Facebook account. Some of the animals were more photogenic than others. If seeing all the animals wasn’t enough to reaffirm my vegetarianism, the stench sure was. Josh didn’t seem to notice though. He was too scared to pet anything, but he helped out by putting hay in every pen he walked by. He’s apparently terrified of roosters.

I submitted my second review to GameSpot this morning for a WWII air-combat DS game called Spitfire Heroes. It’s a mediocre title at best, and I think my review reflects that. I had trouble coming up with interesting things to say about such a boring game. I’ll link to the review when it goes up. I’m also still playing Final Fantasy VII, although I haven’t made much progress. I tracked down a copy of the strategy guide, so we’ll see if that gets me any farther.

I’m a big fan of the Mr. Driller games, so I downloaded the XBLA version of Mr. Driller Online as soon as it came out on Wednesday. That thing is completely broken. The single-player campaign is functional, but shallow in comparison to previous games in the series. It’s ironic that a game called Mr. Driller Online has absolutely no online functionality. I helped out with some online matches for GameSpot’s review. Check out Don’s take on the abysmal game for more info. Hopefully Namco Bandai will release a patch soon. Patches for console games? I miss my Super Nintendo.
